Recovering audio content stored on DVDs, including data-based audio collections.
DVDs can contain audio as part of authored video discs or as ordinary audio files on data DVDs. The extraction method should be selected after identifying the disc structure.
Audio may be embedded within an authored DVD-Video programme or stored as independent files on a data DVD.
Identify the source structure before extraction. Do not assume that every DVD containing audio is a DVD-Audio disc or a standard video DVD.
Where the source contains PCM or another lossless audio representation, preserve the native data where practical. If the audio is embedded in video, retain the original video structure before making separate audio access derivatives.
Metadata should identify the source disc, programme, track or file and any known technical characteristics.
Check channel configuration, sample rate, bit depth where applicable, duration and file integrity.
