What is a Digital Family Archive? A digital archive is your personal historical documents and objects that provide evidence of the past which have been digitised and made available online. This is the best protection for your private collection.
Creating a Digital Archive of Your Belongings. Many clients have collections which are personally significant materials. These may include diaries and letters handed down through generations or photographs of significant life events or even a set of old tickets stubs. These paper-based collections deteriorate over time, but making small changes in storage and handling can have a huge impact on the lifespan of the materials.
What formats are best for archiving files? Technology has become more secure ensuring online media is universally accessible. For images, we digitise using TIFF or JPEG format. For documents, we offer PDF format which can be opened regardless of software or operating system. For video files, we suggest MPEG4. And for sound files, WAV or FLAC usable on all of the current platforms on the Mac and in Windows.
