Professional Disc Film Scanning in Oxfordshire
Disc film was introduced in 1982 as a consumer still-photography format and has since been discontinued. The film is contained within a flat plastic cartridge, with individual exposures arranged around the outside of the disc.
Because the individual negatives are small, specialist handling and high-resolution scanning are important when creating useful digital copies. We process these collections with preservation and image quality in mind, providing practical files for access and use.
High-Resolution Capture
The original service specification calls for high-resolution 48-bit TIFF archival capture to retain detail from the small negatives.

Images are processed through our archival workflow, with image correction applied before practical access files are produced.
How We Process Disc Film
Disc film negatives are particularly small and require a carefully controlled scanning process. Our existing service specification uses 4800dpi, 48-bit TIFF archival capture to provide sufficient resolution and bit depth for the negative material.
Following capture, the images are brought into our archival image workflow where correction and preparation are applied. JPEG access copies can then be produced for straightforward viewing and use.

Professional Disc Film & APS Scanning
The current service schedule covers APS film rolls and individual disc spindles, with JPEG output supplied to USB or cloud upload. The listed film ranges are 15, 25 and 40 images per roll.
